JCP&L to Share Details on Revised Preferred Route for Montville-Whippany Transmission Line
Public input meetings scheduled for November 10
Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) announced today a revised preferred route for a 230-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that avoids some congested areas originally considered for the project. The revised preferred route is the result of comments by community members, local public officials, and additional engineering work to minimize the transmission line’s impact on local communities.
The line will connect JCP&L substations in East Hanover, N.J., and Montville, N.J., and is expected to enhance service reliability and meet the growing demand for electricity in Morris and Sussex counties. The majority of the route is located adjacent to existing transmission lines, minimizing the amount of new rights-of-way required from property owners.
JCP&L will share maps and other details of the route at two public information sessions at the Sheraton Parsippany Hotel, 199 Smith Road, Parsippany on Monday, November 10 from 10 a.m. – noon and at Montville High School, 100 Horseneck Road, Montville from 6 – 8 p.m. A petition for the project is expected to be filed with the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (BPU) later this year and is subject to review and approval by the BPU.
A map of the revised preferred route can be found here.
